If you’re ready and willing to have your blog admired in the online community, then try a few different methods of increasing blog traffic. If the quality of your content is low, then most of your optimization techniques will be ineffective. Many businesses are publishing content as a way to build their audiences and increase traffic to their websites. However, they may not be getting everything they expect from each piece of content they create. If you are serious about your content, then you also need to be serious about driving as much traffic to it (over social media) as possible. Immediately after publishing a new blog post, we promote that post on social media. When we share it with each of our networks, we garner a certain number of clicks for each share.<\/p>\n

Now, let\u2019s discuss your\u00a0message schedule<\/strong>, which simply is the series of messages that will be sent once your blog post goes live. The goal of the schedule is to create a \u201cpeppered\u201d social media approach that will help you get more clicks. A well-executed schedule may look something like this:<\/p>\n

  1. On publish<\/strong>\u2013 Social message sent when blog post goes live<\/li>\n
  2. Same day<\/strong>\u2013 Initial social messages trickle out to your accounts over the next 2-3 hours<\/li>\n
  3. Next day<\/strong>\u2013 Messages are shared again on the appropriate social channels<\/li>\n
  4. Next week<\/strong>\u2013 Another series of messages are pre-scheduled and sent the following week<\/li>\n
  5. Next month<\/strong>\u2013 Even more social messages are pre-scheduled for the following month<\/li>\n
  6. Next _____\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Optionally, additional messages can be scheduled for the three-month mark or beyond<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Once you\u2019ve defined a good schedule for each network, you can map it out in a simple timeline that will give you a bird\u2019s eye view of your content promotion. This is an important step in the process.<\/p>\n

    If you want to use social media to boost your blog traffic, here are\u00a0those eight ways<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>to do that:<\/p>\n

    1. Get on Twitter.<\/strong> I<\/strong>f it\u2019s not already on your blog, add the\u201ctweet\u201d button\u00a0to all of your blog posts.<\/li>\n
    2. Start a <\/strong>Facebook page<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>for your blog.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>This is a great, additional subscription option for heavy Facebook users, and it can be a means of expanding your platform. I\u2019ve met several new people who \u201cliked\u201d my page and weren\u2019t previously friends with me on Facebook.<\/li>\n
    3. Regularly <\/strong>share your content on Facebook<\/strong><\/a>.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>There are some great tools to help make this easier for you. Encourage your readers to do the same by adding Facebook\u00a0or \u201cshare\u201d button.<\/li>\n
    4. Ask others to promote your blog via social bookmarking sites<\/strong>, such as DIGG, Stumble upon, Reddit, and others. You may occasionally do this yourself, but be careful of doing it repeatedly, as some sites penalize sites with multiple submissions from the same user.<\/li>\n
    5. Implement social sharing tools on your website.<\/strong>An excellent tool is\u00a0Flare<\/a>, which allows you to combine sharing options via Twitter, Facebook, email, and social bookmarking sites into one tool.<\/li>\n
    6. Use a social-powered commenting tool <\/strong>like\u00a0Discus<\/a>s\u00a0or\u00a0Intense Debate<\/a>.<\/li>\n
    7. Write <\/strong>catchy headlines<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>that people will want to <\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Most people neglect this by posting well-written articles with crappy, nondescript titles. Don\u2019t do that.<\/li>\n
    8. Write compelling content.<\/strong>You might be thinking, \u201cDuh,\u201d but I\u00a0mean<\/em>\u00a0 It has to be\u00a0really<\/em>\u00a0good. Like, better than your average blog.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
